Course Requirements

Applicants for admission into the Music Education program seeking Class AA Educator License must have: (1) satisfactory scores on the PRAXIS I Core CASE (Core Academic Skills for Educators) Reading-5713 (passing score 156); Writing-5723 (passing score 162); Math-5733 (passing score 130); and (2) PRAXIS II (Content Area Exam**)                                                                                                                                                  **Approved content area tests and passing scores are determined by MDE, are subject to change pending MDE approval, and are listed at the State Dept of Education website,

Scores must be on file before admission to candidacy.

Music Education (12 sem. hrs.)

MUS 6501 Sociology and Psychology of Music Education   (required)

MUS 6516 History and Philosophy of Music Education  

Choose one of the following:

MUS 6573 Project/Thesis I  AND

MUS 6574 Project/Thesis II  


EDU 6535 Curriculum Development  AND

Music Education Elective (3 sem. hrs.)

Electives (9 sem. hrs.)

Nine credits will be selected with the advisor's approval from 6000-level music or related coursework. No more than 3 credit hours may be applied lessons/ensembles.

Total: 30 sem. hrs.
