SWK 225 - Introduction to Social Work and Social WelfareCredits, 3 sem. hrs. An introduction to the Social Work profession and to the philosophy, concepts, and values of social work practice. Also included in course content is an overview of the historical development of the profession and current fields of practice. Students must complete a field component comprising a minimum of 40 hours of volunteer experience in a human service agency. This course is an analysis of the historical development of social welfare policies and programs. Current programs will be examined in terms of services, eligibility requirements, etc. Includes oral presentation by student.
