COU 6812 - Psychopharmacology for Professional Counselors

Credits, 3 sem. hrs.
Prerequisite(s): Completion of the Qualifying Courses and admission to candidacy for the M.S. degree in Addiction Counseling. The course provides a foundation in understanding psychopharmacology and the biopsychosocial model for the professional counselors. Addiction counselors will learn about biological bases for substance use and addictive disorders; pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics; psychoactive drugs and their effects; the disease concept and stages of dependence; and biopsychosocial case formulation and treatment planning.
